At the south end of St Helena's inlet below Edisto, Pine, and Otter Islands one will aproach many sand bars before reaching Harbor Island, then Hunting Island and Fripp Island. Harbor Island is separated from Hunting Island by Johnson Creek. This creek opens into the Sound and is extremely difficult to navigate at its inlet with winding gullies and sand bars at its entrance. At low tide entrance is mostly impossible, but as the tide rises, boats can pass in and the creek is less challenging. This creek winds behind Harbor Island and leads into a labyrinth of extensive grass, mud flats , and small islads.

This scene is taken from Hunting Island on its land side in late afternoon with bold yellows and orange grass separating the Red Cedars. Sandy areas look pink, yellow and bluish in the late afternoon light.

This is a 16 X 20" acrylic on stretched canvas and weighs 10oz
