If anyone has visited Edisto Island by automobile, you have crossed the Dawhoo River bridge which is named for McKinley Washington as a  memorial. This represents the third bridge from the mainland to this large SC coastal sea island. The first such bridge, built in 1920, was a swing bridge which allowed boats to pass under It . In 1950, a second bridge was constructed which was a two lane electric swing bridge, but was not tall enough for intracoastal vessels to safely pass.. This most recent bridge ,honoring McKinley Washington, was dedicated in 1993 and is  a new bridge tall enough to remain  closed, safely allowing room for large boats  and gives a beautiful view of the local area. From this height the vista includes Jehossee Island and the entire Dawhoo water course as well as   the intercoastal waterway cut- through to the South Edisto River.  At Dawn and dusk, beautiful views can be seen, especially  at Sunset and at Sunrise.

This painting was done looking East at Dawn towards Wadmalaw Island and the town of Rockville.  That morning, the sun was shining through the clouds and beautiful colors were seen both in the sky and off the River.  The oranges were brilliantly fluorescent and the clouds were purple/violet in color ; remarkable reflections were seen off the water. Surprisingly,, observers standing in the margin along the bridge edge might  witness many drivers motoring over the bridge who appear to ignore this amazing early morning view as they rush frantically to their destinations.

This is a oil painting that is 30" x 40" in size and weighs approximately 6 pounds.
