Fenwick Island is cut into 3 sections as it lines the South Edisto and Ashepoo Rivers and is a popular landscape for those photographers and painters who are bold enough to search out these islands. The difficulty remains their isolated location, surrounded by creeks full of alligators and water moccasins .

The portion farthest east has been separated from the other two sections by the intracoastal waterway, and the middle portion is a private agricultural area attached to Bennet's Point. The most westward section is mostly  owned by the DNR Wildlife Management Area (WMA) division of the SC DNR. This area offers rare views of the wetlands of the lowcountry and is home to great diversity of birdlife, including various duck, egret, stork species. Approachable only by boat, few have the opportunity to experience this beautiful island. Fog and summer storms generally create  striking arrangements with the tall strings of pines that abundantly populate this island.

This small oil painting is 8" X 10" and reveals the rough, grass lined dirt roads approaching one of the many stands of tall pine trees. The fog has just lifted at dawn when this painting was captured on canvas.
