The Ashepoo River is part of the ACE (Ashepoo-Combahee-Edisto) estuarine preserve region of South Carolina and remains one of the Lowcountry's finest scenic rivers as it winds through old rice fields and eventually down to join the multitude of islands and creeks as it empties into St Helena Sound. Most find this river difficult to explore since many of the islands are reachable only by water and represent private impoundments as private duck hunting clubs and sanctuaries. By turning off of highway 17 south from Charleston at Bennet's Point Road, one will cross this river a couple of times heading to Bennet's Point. Dark black waters reflect the colorful abundant and diverse growth along the river's edge allowing remarkably beautiful wetland landscapes to be visualized by observant motorists and cyclists.

This painting was done on a late Autumn from the river when I came upon these clumped pines surrounded by tall orange and red grasses. Making a stark contrast in color and a comforting display is what the Ashepoo river abundantly offers those who make the effort. This is 30" X 40" 6 pound acrylic painting that remains unframed.
