Despite the heavy water traffic that troubles the Folly River today, if one deviates off the main river, away from the "autoban"  of speeding motorcraft,(including those obnoxious Jetskis) , there is much to see around Cole's Island, Snake Island, Middle Cole's and Pumpkin Island, with hummocks of red cedars , pines, and palmettos as well as scraggly scrub oaks. Especially when the tide is high in the marsh, picturesque lowcountry vistas are abundant. Theses pines are representative and, depending on the season, are surrounded by a sea of spartina marsh grass, which may vary in color from shades of brown, to shades of pink, lavender, green, and yellow. In deep spring and summer, the grass may reveal a series of colors gradually moving up the stem starting with red-orange at the base,, then yellow mid-stalk, and ending in bright green in the leaves. Flowering in late summer gives a light yellow cast to the stands of marsh grass. The red/ orange and yellow colors of the stems can only be observed close-up at low tide.

This 24 X 18" oil painting is detailed further with acrylic on stretched canvas. It is 1.75 pounds
