The Chehaw river is part of the ACE basin wildlife preserve and is surrounded by remote SC sea islands. This river eventually empties into the remarkable St Helens Sound. With difficulty, one may drive into the area by heading south from Charleston on highway 17 south and turning left in Colleton County on Old Wiggins Road. One must travel  down the unpaved dirt road through some beautiful timberlands and meadows, an area controlled by Ducks Unlimited, until one reaches areas where the Old Chehaw river cuts into the landscape, forming islands and high bluffs as well as coastal wetlands. An explorer will rarely pass a vehicle in this area of remote paved and dirt roads.

This painting was done as a late Fall sun dips below the trees reflecting on the serene water ways of the Old Chehaw.  This 16"X 20" oil painting weighs approximately 1.5 pounds and is unframed.
