Cedar Island is an uninhabited SC sea island that sits between the North and South Santee rivers as the empty the huge Santee delta into the Atlantic. Because of the extensive preserved impoundments which remain of the extensive rice fields of the 18th and 19th centuries and remoteness of the entire area, very few take the special effort to visit this rare and beautiful landscape. Cedar Island, like many sea islands along the SC coast, is under attack constantly by the powerful Atlantic and has sustained significant problems with erosion, especially with the recent tropical storms and hurricanes.

This moderately large acrylic painting is 30" X 40" and weighs approximately 6 pounds. This scene was painted from the North Santee inlet, at dawn, looking back as the Atlantic enters the ocean, swerving around the northern tip of Cedar Island .

The North Santee inlet is separated from the South Santee in the delta by the "Middle Ground" and Cedar Island separates the two rivers as they enter the ocean.
