This 12 X 16" acrylic painting weighs only 9 oz and reveals the beauty of this less frequently visited wildlife preserve in Colleton County. Bear Island Preserve is a 12,000 wildlife preserve sea island in Colleton County, South Carolina and is part of the ACE Basin wildlife estuarine preserve. It is managed by the Department of Natural Resources of SC and owned by the SC taxpayers. Open to all from February to October each year, it is accessible via Bennet's Point Road off Highway 17 south from Charleston.

Many of the roads in this preserve are paved, but some are still cut in the sandy soil as seen below. This late summer scene was taken in late afternoon with long bluish shadows but bright green and yellow grass.
